Having diabetes is no walk in the park especially when it comes to food. Once you have it, you need to improve and adapt a healthier lifestyle, switch up your old routines and know which foods can cause spikes in your blood sugar most importantly. Awareness is key to controlling your diabetes.

Keeping your sugar levels within the safe range can be difficult to adapt to at first especially since most of the food you are probably used to consuming on a daily basis includes bread, pasta, milk, deserts and many more. So what change would you recommend to kick start a healthier lifestyle?

When eating meat, keep your fat intake as low as possible for instance avoid eating the chicken skin and pork fat. For vegan style, beans, nuts and tofu are best.

Whole oats are among the healthiest foods you can eat and should be at the top of your grocery list. Whole wheat is also found in pasta, bread and whole grain rye. More recently, quinoa, brown rice have increased in popularity due to their health benefits especially with helping you keep a healthy waistline while not feeling empty on your stomach.

Living with diabetes is difficult at first however there are many success stories on how people adapted and changed their food choices. It takes a little more research and discipline to get in shape and start making healthier food choices. Always remember to switch things up a little bit every once in a while since eating the same thing over and over will more than likely make you dread it.
